Surrounded by the beautiful "FINDHORN GARDENS" in the Findhorn Foundation, The Green Room Café offers international vegetarian cuisine, coffees and snacks (fresh pastries and cakes, organic Italian-style coffees and a wide variety of herbal teas).

Originally when the Findhorn Foundation's Universal Hall was built, in the 1970s, the café was conceived as being part of this new facility, catering to the Hall's events and conferences. However the café actually stood incomplete for the first few years, only to be finished with the help of a grant from the Scottish Tourist Board which stipulated that the café should be open to a wider public.
By 1984 the work on the café was complete and from its humble origins 'The Green Room' came fully to life. For the first seven or so years it operated as a department of the Findhorn Foundation; run by Foundation members and offering simple, wholesome fayre - more of a sandwich bar than a café. Then, in 1991 the café opened up to outside employees who were paid in "blue money" - the Foundation's precursor to the LETS system. In 1993 New Findhorn Directions, an independent Foundation off-shoot business, took over ownership of the café introducing a fuller, more expansive menu. Most recently, in 2001, the café's interior and menu have undergone more exciting changes and we now endeavour to offer as much ORGANIC food and drink as we can lay our hands on! Following on from the initiatives of those who have given their time, energy and vision to the café over the years, we continue to respect Mother Nature in all our daily efforts via the recycling and composting of our waste. We also support FAIR TRADE producers and buy LOCAL PRODUCE whenever and wherever we can. We are proud to be a part of the excellent artistic and cultural atmosphere fostered by the Universall Hall's many events and we endeavour to offer our own contribution to the arts through our musical evenings, poetry reading, art gallery space plus much more. The Green Room Café exists to be a welcoming and nourishing place for all who visit us. We hope you find it so! |
