Local Nature Reserve Title.
Local Nature Reserve. The Findhorn Bay. The Findhorn Bay is an enclosed estuary giving shelter to people and wildlife. The Bay is an international airport for birds, with significant numbers of migrant wildfowl. It is also important for watersports and a tourist destination.

The Local Nature Reserve is managed by local people in partnership with the Moray Council and Scottish Natural Heritage.

Why is the Bay so special?
The mud flats that appear as the tide ebbs is a living larder richer in life than the average farmers field. It is not the barren waste it appears. Indeed, it is the base and the lower links of a chain of food that extends from tiny plankton to the larger birds, fishes and others.

When visiting the Reserve please follow these simple rules:

  • Take care on the mud flats, the tide rises quickly
  • After digging the surface please fill in the holes
  • Wildfowlers use the Bay in the winter months. Take care at dawn and dusk
  • When walking in the Bay please avoid disturbing wildlife
  • Remember - This is a precious and fragile environment
